2012 West Coast Quake Tournament Results

The 2012 West Coast Quake carried a sense of deja vu into the final as both 2011’s defending champ Rich Kilton and 4th place finisher Cole Filipek once again made up half of the Final Four at the end of five rounds. Rich went into the final game atop the leader board, but was unable to retain his title as his Orcs fell to Geoff Roscoe’s Dwarves. That opened the door for Bryan Tew’s Norse to slide into first with a victory over Cole’s Wood Elves — over Geoff in 2nd place and Rich falling to 3rd in his loss, with Cole finishing 4th for the second year in a row. Congratulations, Bryan!

2012 saw the West Coast Quake take a field trip to Las Vegas, where it was attended by a healthy mix of old and new faces. These included several Vegas coaches defending their home turf and members of Southern California’s FABBL, the league behind the Quake. Add in visitors from Northern California and Utah to as far away as Vancouver and Utah, and 22 coaches took part — and, for the first time in Quake history, we finally had every coach play all 6 games! The West Coast Quake greatly appreciates everyone who made the effort and the trips to come join us — we hope you had as good a time as we did, and we hope to see everyone back in 2013 as the Quake returns to Southern California for it 5th anniversary! Look for exciting news and sneak peak pictures of GREAT goodies starting July/August.

Complete tournament results appear below. Please note that, in an effort to spread the love, the West Coast Quake generally limits coaches to one award each (with occasional exceptions), with the 1st-through-3rd-place finishes being their own award. The top four coaches after Round 5 were assured the top four final spots, even if a loss in the championship finals of Round 6 might result in a slightly lower final points total than someone outside the top four who’d won their Round 6 game; similarly, the titles of Best Offense and Best Defense might not necessarily go to the absolute highest/lowest values in those categories.

I would also like to note that in the category of Best Painted, it was highly contested between Mark Garcia (winner 2009-2010) and David Hazzelwood (winner 2011). The tie-breaking vote went to Mark for his 3rd win in 4 years — but both teams were outstanding!
